In storytelling, there are certain ideas, symbols, patterns or behaviours that can be recognizable worldwide. These are called archetypes. An archetype is a story element that appears again and again in stories from different cultures and symbolizes something universal in human experience. They are part of the human collective unconscious. Carl Jung, one of the forefathers of psychoanalysis, believed that these recurring figures are part of the myth-making fabric that is common to all humans. In fact, stories and myths are an intrinsic part of human development and evolution.
